GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is under-insurance?
This occurs when any declared sum insured is below the replacement value of the insured item.
How do I prevent under-insurance?
Regular reviews of sum insured's are essential to keep stated values inline with replacement values. By checking the replacement value of your goods and regularly updating your policy to include any new purchases, you will ensure that your insurance cover is understated. This means your premiums will be correct and your claims will be settled fairly and quickly.
PERSONAL LINES INSURANCE
What is a House-owners Insurance Policy?
This a policy designed to cover residential building excluding their contents.
What does the policy cover?
Damage to the physical structure of your private residence and domestic outbuildings, identified as the risk situation in your certificate, and where the structure is built in accordance with the National Building Regulations and constructed as indicated in your certificate. Note: This definition refers to a "private residence" and if the building/s is/are occupied for purposes other than domestic use, you should notify Standard Bank Insurance Brokers for the appropriate cover to be arranged.
MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE
What is comprehensive cover and why do I need it?
If you have invested in a new car, it is wise to choose comprehensive insurance (if your vehicle is financed, comprehensive insurance is compulsory). This covers you for damage to other people's property, to your own vehicle, and to your passengers. Comprehensive insurance gives you the widest protection.
What about this expensive sound system I have installed in my car; is it covered too?
Car radios and accessories are not covered for theft if you don't have comprehensive motor insurance. Even then, the maximum amount payable on a claim for car audio equipment is limited. Therefore, we recommend that you insure sound units at their current replacement prices as specified items under the All Risks section of your policy. This should provide full cover.
