Background on Zimnat Lion
Established in 1946, the company has been in operation for almost 60 years now.   In 1959 the Assurance Company of Rhodesia was formed after ICR purchased a Life Insurance company.   TA Holdings, which was founded in 1935 as Tobacco Auctions Limited, took over ICR in 1969.

In 1974 the non-life company was renamed the Rhodesia National Farmers Union Insurance Society. Given this development, the major line of business became farming. As a result, the company was then known in informal sectors as
Rhodesia National Insurance (RhoNat).   After the independence of Zimbabwe in 1980, the name of the company changed to Zimnat Insurance Company, still under a composite license. In 1984, TA Holdings decided to split the composite license and from there Zimnat Lion was born.

Business Structure
In 1999 Zimnat Insurance Company merged with Lion of Zimbabwe to form Zimnat Lion Insurance Company Limited.

In 2001 the company was listed on the Zimbabwe stock exchange . In early 2005 negotiations between AIG and TA Holdings led to the merger between AIG Zimbabwe and Zimnat Lion Insurance Company.

The merger brought with it;

·  A stronger balance sheet

·  A bigger and wider underwriting capacity
·  A wider range of products

Our GCR rating in 2009 was A- (Claims paying ability). Zimnat Lion is a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of TA Holdings Limited. We de-listed from the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange on 30 June 2009.

The company operates from Harare, Gweru, Mutare and Bulawayo. Over and above the three branches we also have Insurance brokers and agents who are located in almost all the major towns in Zimbabwe.
